Trend to Try: Culottes

Culottes. You probably haven't seen them since your school days, but consider them back, and back with a vengeance. Spotted on spring/summer 2014 runways at Victoria Beckham, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Mulberry, and last season on The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, culottes are looking to prove themselves as the new pant silhouette for fall. But how to wear them? Ending mid-calf and traditionally cut wide, culottes typically look best with heels (as they help to elongate the leg). "Less-structured culottes can be balanced with a tailored blazer that can be taken off to reveal a blouse—Equipment has great silk options—that will transition the look from day to night," says Net-a-Porter's fashion director Holli Rogers. "Give culottes a more fun and casual daytime flair with a graphic sweatshirt by any designer from Kenzo to Matthew Williamson."
