Straight Hair Styling Tips

Wash your hair with a highlight enhancing shampoo. Work a bit of volumizing mousse through your roots so you get extra lift without working too hard.

Quickly blow-dry on a medium heat (don't worry about getting every strand perfectly smooth, you can tame flyaways with a little anti frizz serum later.)

Make a deep side part and pull hair loosely back from either side of the part, fastening hair with a tiny claw clip. This way you'll have that tousled, loose effect but your hair will still hold where you clip it.

First, consider a few layers. "The longest styles look even longer right after a good cut that adds movement even if it takes off half an inch," says NYC stylist Ted Gibson.

If you haven't gotten to the stylist yet, use a curling iron and roll two- to three-inch sections halfway up the barrel.

Spritz with hairspray and then pull the curls out so they turn into long, loose waves at the bottom. You'll get the same kind of bouncy look you'd get after a $200 haircut.

"The perfect blowout isn't about getting your hair pin-straight, it's about getting that soft, moveable sexy look that will last a few days," says L.A. stylist Rod Ortega.

Start from the back of your head and move forward. Run a little straightening cream through your hair-the less product you use, the longer your blowout will last-and dry two-inch sections using a large roundbrush.

For extra volume around the sides of your face, pull the round brush out to the side of your face instead of down as you go.

To curb frizz, warm up a tiny drop of anti frizz in your hands and run your palms lightly over your hair.

This is a great look for unwashed, straight hair. Grab the section of hair right at the front of your crown, making sure not to pick up any of the side pieces. Backcomb it so you get some real lift. Then spray that section with a non-sticky hairspray and backcomb a little more.

Pull the section back and a little to the side and fasten it with bobby pins so the ends are sticking out but you're keeping the height at the roots.
