Lots of people aspire to become friends with celebrities, but most celebrities only dream of striking up a friendship with royalty. Here are just some of the celebrities who count the royal family as friends.
Rihanna
Rihanna and Prince Harry met during his tour of the Caribbean in 2016. They bonded during their photo op, took HIV tests live on camera with each other, and even attended a concert, because friendship.
The Obamas
The Obamas have a great relationship with the royals. They've met with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry on multiple occasions and they always look like the best of friends.
Taylor Swift
There's no word on whether or not Taylor keeps in touch with the royals, but she did famously sing "Livin' on a Prayer" with Bon Jovi and Prince William during a Kensington Palace charity event in 2013
"If he ever wants me to sing with him again I'll be there," Swift said of singing with the royal. "It was a night I will remember till I'm very, very old. The whole evening was completely wondrous."
Eddie Redmayne
Prince William and the Oscar-winner attended Eton College together and played on the same rugby team. In early 2015, Redmayne said they hadn't kept in touch. "He was a pal at school, but I haven’t seen him since school."
Later that year, however, the pair reunited at the Audi Polo Challenge in Cambridge and it was glorious.
The Beckhams
The Beckhams are close with the royal family. They scored a highly-coveted invitation to Will and Kate's wedding in 2011 and have met with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
"It's a very normal relationship," David Beckham said of his friendship with the princes. "They're very easy to get along with. They love their sport."
Cara Delevingne, Margot Robbie, and Suki Waterhouse
Cara and Prince Harry go way back and the model has introduced the royal to other celebrities, like actresses Margot Robbie and Suki Waterhouse. The group were all snapped in a photo booth together in 2016. In addition to taking adorable party pictures together, Cara, Margot, and Harry regularly exchange texts.
Elton John
Elton John was famously close with Princess Diana before her untimely death in 1997 and performed "Candle in the Wind" for her at her funeral.
Ellie Goulding
Ellie Goulding is good friends with several members of the royal family and even performed at William and Kate's wedding in 2011.
James Blunt
The singer and Prince Harry have been friends for a long time. They served in the British Army together. Blunt performed at the 2016 Invictus Games after Harry invited him via text.
Joss Stone
The singer has been good friends with Princes Harry (and William) for years now.
"He’s just a lovely guy," she said. "I’ve come into contact with Harry and William for years now and we as a country we watch them grow and we watch them do lovely things and I think all of us as a nation should be proud of those boys, those men."
Rod Stewart
Rod Stewart and Prince Charles are good friends and have been for years. Stewart was the ambassador for Charle's foundation, the Prince's Trust, and, in 2008, he performed at Charles’ 60th birthday party.
Reese Witherspoon
Kate Middleton met Reese Witherspoon during her royal tour of Canada and North America in 2011. The two hit it off and Kate reportedly sent Reese a gift when her son, Tennessee, was born in 2012.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
The former power couple met the late Princess Diana at a screening of Far and Away in 1992. Both actors attended Diana's funeral in 1997.
Joan Rivers
It was an unlikely friendship indeed, but Joan Rivers and Prince Charles were very good friends. Rivers attended Charles’ wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005 and later performed at his 60th birthday party.
Chris Martin
In 2016, Martin's band, Coldplay, headlined a concert for Prince Harry’s charity, Sentebale and Harry joined the band on stage, like best friends do.
Leonardo DiCaprio
The Oscar-winner is friends with Prince Albert of Monac0. Both are avid environmentalists who have worked together to make the world a cleaner place.
Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman appears on this list a second time thank to her friendship with Jordan monarch Queen Rania. The pair reportedly met at a luncheon, hit it off immediately, and have been friends ever since.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga and Prince William united in 2017 to speak up about a cause they both care about—encouraging people to open up about mental health. The singer met William's younger brother, Harry, two years earlier at a Gala Concert in aid of WellChild in London.
Serena Williams
Williams is close to a soon-to-be royal, which makes her worthy of this list. She and Meghan Markle have known each other for years and Meghan describes the tennis legend as one of her "closest friends."
Geri Halliwell
The Spice Girls singer has known Prince Harry for more than 20 years and gushes about the man he's grown to be.
"I met Prince Harry when he was about 10. I've seen him grow up and it's brilliant what he's done with his life—it's all for a great cause," she said in 2014. "He's shown people he cares and he's got a great heart and spirit."
Usain Bolt
The Olympian and Prince Harry have been pals for years. In 2017, the sprinter joked that he plans to throw Harry three bachelor parties ahead of his wedding to Meghan Markle.
"I’m thinking about having three. My idea is to have one in Kingston, one in Vegas, and one in London," he said. "I know it’s a lot to ask but these are his last nights of freedom. I will personally call Meghan and take responsibility for getting him home safely after each."
Tom Hardy
The actor cameoed in Star Wars alongside Prince Harry and Prince William. Hardy and Harry also crossed paths at the Audi Polo Challenge in 2014 and 2016.
