Any Gossip Girl worth their salt knows the show's audition anecdotes by now: Leighton Meester had to dye her hair, the network wasn't originally into Ed Westwick, and Blake Lively was one of very few actresses considered for Serena. But creator Josh Schwartz just dropped a mind-blowing new nugget: Among those other hopefuls vying for the role of Serena Van Der Woodsen was a teenage Jennifer Lawrence.
"We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned," Schwartz told Vulture. "This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it." Needless to say, this was well before Lawrence had broken through with her Oscar-nominated performance in 2010's Winter's Bone, and for that reason, Schwartz doesn't even remember whether he saw the then-unknown 16-year-old's tape or not.
Mind. Blown. Just think about the alternative pop culture reality that could have been! We're just saying, if that tape still exists in a casting agent's drawer somewhere, somebody needs to get it onto YouTube pronto.
