In our biweekly series, editors share the item they wear on repeat, whether it be a basic white tee or a super-trendy jumpsuit. Prepare yourself (and your credit card) for some guilt-free shopping.
Somehow, I made it through 2020 without getting dressed (read: changing out of an oversized T-shirt and Soffe shorts) for a single work day during the pandemic. In a sense, it gave me something to look forward to on the weekends when I actually did put on "real clothes" for the run-around-the-neighborhood, grab a coffee, doomscroll, repeat weekend routine I've grown accustomed to while quarantining in South Florida. One of the pieces my family (and my Instagram Stories) has seen me wear at least five times and counting? Everlane's white linen long-sleeve tee.
Unlike their short-sleeve counterparts, long-sleeve white T-shirts do not get the attention they deserve. Even as someone who wears long-sleeve shirts like it's my religion (yes, even in 80 degree weather), I had yet to find a basic long-sleeve white T-shirt that wasn't too thick, too narrow, or too cropped. That is, until I impulse-bought Everlane's boxy linen pick six months ago. Normally I stay away from linen—especially in the South Florida heat (I'm not about those sweat stains)—but the fabrication somehow didn't deter me from adding the shirt to my cart, and it's safe to say I'm obsessed.
Not only is the long-sleeve tee extremely lightweight, but it's also a bit see-through, which adds a flirty vibe to my outfits. I typically like to wear a black Lululemon sports bra underneath it, but it would also look great with a bralette. The shirt is long enough to slightly tuck into shorts, a jean skirt, or a pair of high-waisted pants, as seen below, or leave hanging. The length also makes the shirt fitting as a mini cover-up for a beach or pool day when it's a little breezy outside—or not. Either way, the airy material won't stick to your skin. (It's about the little things these days, right?).
Here’s a closer look at the shirt.
Yes, this is a bathroom mirror pic. I stand by my decision.
Everlane's white long-sleeve T-shirt, which is currently on sale for $22 (originally $38) runs true to size. Though most sizes are sold out right now, extra extra small and extra small sizes are still available on the site. I'd argue that those who are a size medium (a.k.a. me) can probably fit into a small, but if you like a truly boxy, slightly oversized fit then you should stick to your regular size. My only complaint? That this style doesn't come in more colors. Everlane, if you're reading this, please do me a solid and add an assortment of colors!
