This Spring Dress Trend Convinced Selena Gomez to Leave Her Minimalist Comfort Zone

She's taking cues from an editor-favorite runway.

It's been six months since Selena Gomez wore color on a red carpet. Judging by her last non-black dress, a mauve mini at the 2025 Rare Impact Fund Benefit, she reserves her most vibrant styles for Rare Beauty events. On April 2, the founder attended the True To Myself Matte Foundation's launch party in a pink Prada mini dress. Every element felt so different for the minimalist.

Stylist Erin Walsh—the same creative behind Anne Hathaway's The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour—left the Prada-verse for one night in West Hollywood with Gomez. Walsh fittingly sourced Prada for a pocketed Spring 2026 dress, crafted from powder-blush pink satin.

On the runway, senior fashion news editor Halie LeSavage was drawn to the dress's bead-coated necklines. "Each time [the embellished collar] hit the 2026 runway, it sent a sea of phones rising into the air to capture how the beads refracted the light," LeSavage recounted in her post-show review.

By itself, the dress's collar channeled circa-2010s statement necklaces, in all their ornate glory. However, the skirt's matching, tissue paper-looking trim aligned it with fashion's current affinity for undone dresses. (See the crinkle-texture trend on other Spring 2026 catwalks.) The extra hem was originally charcoal gray, but Gomez chose white to match Prada's pointy, bow-topped take on the slingback pumps trend.

To finish, the "Same Old Love" singer only accessorized with diamond Effy Jewelry hoop earrings, a few diamond bands, and her marquise-cut engagement ring, of course. She didn't need the model's leather jacket—her black coat collection is stocked with similar styles.

Gomez seems to be a fan of Prada's satin sheen: Her baby blue "Cinderella-like" gown at the 2025 Golden Globes boasted an almost-identical glimmer. The cotton candy-colored hue, on the other hand, marked a clear shift from her public-facing, neutral color palette. She plays with pink while off-duty, as proven by her rosy sweatsuit in February. But with highly saturated shades dominating Spring 2026 color trends, perhaps this is the season Gomez officially steps outside her LBD-led comfort zone.
