Having already played a pretty-in-pink blonde who can do it all in 2001's Legally Blonde, it makes perfect sense that Reese Witherspoon (the woman who made an icon out of Elle Woods) would be spearheading a new movie in the name of another pretty-in-pink blonde who can do it all: Barbie.
The Oscar winner has acquired the rights to the 2010 book by Robin Gerber, Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World's Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her, according to The Tracking Board. The book tells the story of Barbie's creator, Ruth Handler. (Handler's daughter Barbara inspired the doll.)
While her part in the film remains unknown, this latest piece of news marks the second time Witherspoon has been linked to a Barbie-related project. The 39-year-old has reportedly been approached to play the Mattel doll in a Sony-produced live-action comedy written by Diablo Cody as well.
Two Barbie-themed scripts to come across Reese Witherspoon's desk? We know Miss Woods would be *so* proud.
