Makeup Tips for Women of Color

Q: I'm African-American. What's the fastest way to play up my looks?

A: For a natural, healthy look that makes the most of your complexion, NYC makeup artist Mally Roncal suggests using your fingers or a sponge to apply your makeup where you need it. The darker skin is, the oilier it tends to be, so use oil-free makeup. Set with powder that is the same color as your skin. "Beware: Many so-called invisible powders may be too light for you," cautions Roncal. Look for powder labeled translucent or for one that matches your foundation. Brush a brownish-red blush onto the apples of your cheeks. Finish with a coffee or copper-colored lip gloss. We like Neutrogena Moisture Shine Gloss in Pout.

How You Should Really Wash Your Face

When it comes to facial cleansing, there are two schools of thought: old-fashioned soap-and-water or every-bell-and-whistle-at-the-beauty-counter. Turns out, neither is right.
