Selena Gomez just shared the first teaser trailer for her highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of 13 Reasons Why on her Instagram. "A peek at a passion project I've been working on," she captioned the teaser.
The 13-episode series, based off of the wildly popular book of the same name by Jay Asher, follows a boy named Clay on an emotional journey after he receives a box full of cassette tapes from his crush, Hannah, who recently committed suicide. The tapes are Hannah explaining to twelve peers how they each played a role in her decision to take her own life.
Selena was so moved by the book when she read it back in 2011 that she was determined to bring it to the screen. Now she can proudly say she made it happen, as she's a producer of the series.
The trailer features the key characters in the story trying to justify whatever actions they took that contributed to Hannah's decision.

The trailer seems to be taking a PLL-esque mystery approach to what is actually a very complicated, emotional story about bullying and teen suicide, which is surprising—but poignant, none the less. But fans should reserve judgement until the show hits Netflix on March 31st.
