I’m a Vintage Enthusiast—Here’s How I’m Styling My Preloved Bags for Fall

I'll be wearing these chic looks all season long.

When it comes to handbags, I seem to live a double life. If I’m shopping for new styles, I almost always default to practical, everyday pieces defined by classic shapes and neutral tones. These bags are dependable, versatile, and, let’s be honest, a little serious. But when I dive into the world of pre-owned handbags? That’s when the fun starts!

For reasons I can’t fully explain, I never go for “sensible” when buying preloved items. Instead, I’m magnetically drawn to playful and quirky options. It’s as though buying vintage gives me permission to loosen up with bright colors, unusual shapes, and unexpected textures. If a bag shouts, “I’m interesting, I’m unique, and I don’t take myself too seriously,” then chances are, it’s coming home with me.

There’s something liberating about shopping this way. When you’re buying new, the stakes feel higher. The price tag alone makes you consider cost per wear, practicality, and longevity. On the other hand, secondhand styles are often far more affordable—meaning you can snag iconic designs at prices that feel a little more forgiving. The pressure slightly lifts, allowing space for experimentation.

If a vintage bag doesn’t work out, and it's well looked after, I can simply resell it. Plus, there’s the sustainability factor: giving beautiful pieces a second life is a win for both fashion and the planet. But beyond all of that, for me, it’s about joy.

I’ll admit, the thrill of the hunt is addictive. Browsing resale platforms feels like treasure hunting—you never know what you’ll stumble across. Sometimes I don’t even know what I’m searching for—until it finds me.

When temperatures drop, I’ll pair my tie-dye Lady Dior Joy bag with a snug shearling coat. A pair of cherry-red pants will help to brighten up the entire look.

One of my most recent purchases is this watermelon-green Balenciaga City bag, which I found on Rebag’s site (their collection is dangerously good). I love wearing this piece with a casual rugby shirt, a pair of jeans, and set of sneakers for an easygoing feel.

This 2001 Dior Cadillac bag is arguably one of the rarest designs I’ve ever come across. It makes me smile just looking at it. To achieve an effortlessly cool ensemble, I’ll pair this item with relaxed track pants and an edgy leather jacket.

The contrast between laid-back and luxe is what makes this outfit feel modern. If you want to follow my lead, style Chanel’s Rodeo Drive bag with a blouson jacket, a graphic T-shirt, and jeans. Finish things of with loafers and socks for a preppy twist.

At the end of the day, I think my bag collection mirrors my personality—half practical, half playful. The “new” bags keep me grounded and the “preloved” ones remind me to have fun. Together, they strike a balance between chic and cheeky, and isn’t that what great style is all about?
