These Are the 4 Summer-to-Fall Outfit Ideas I’ve Already Perfected
Get ready for the new season.

Friends! I’m not one to season push (as in, wear all my fall clothes when it’s still 90 degrees outside), but I am a typical millennial who is quite excited for fall dressing. This week’s send is all about what to wear for those between-summer-and-fall moments, or as we in the fashion world like to call it, “Pre-Fall.” The key to mastering these styling moments is balance. Mix traditional summer materials and silhouettes with objectively fall items to bridge the gap between the two seasons.
One housekeeping note before we get into things: I’m off on vacation! Coming up, look out for sends from Halie, our senior fashion news editor, and Sara, our style director—two women who consistently influence my style and have incredible taste. You’re in good hands. Now, on to the show!
Cowboy Boots:
If you’ve put your cowboy boots on ice all summer, now’s the perfect time to break them out and build a look around them. Avoid overheating by pairing your boots with lighter materials like poplin, linen, or silk.
Cocoa Brown:
I love wearing cocoa brown all year round, but it feels especially right in the fall. Add a shot of this color to your outfit if you’re over bright, bold colors that scream summer.
White on White:
This should go without saying, but: heading into Labor Day doesn’t mean you have to stash your white clothing, especially your white jeans and T-shirts. We’re past that antiquated rule, right? Still, if you need a little push, lean on footwear (try leather flip flops or loafers) and flouncy details to make it work.
Long Jorts:
While I am still (personally, for me) anti-capri pants, I will forever be Team Long Jorts. I find them to be more versatile—you can wear them with everything from knee-high boots to flat sandals—and, TBH, easier to style. Ideal for between-season weather!
