Friends! I don’t know about you, but as temperatures heat up, my looks become more and more simple. Dare I say boring, even? It’s as if the heat is frying my brain and I’ve run out of ways to keep things interesting! When this happens during the fall or winter, layering usually seems to help. Now, I’m thinking about ways we could adopt this mentality for summer. Here are three options I’ve recently seen and can’t wait to try.
TIE A LARGE, TRIANGLE-SHAPED SCARF AROUND YOUR WAIST:
I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical when I saw this trick make its way across the internet. Once I saw it used in the most recent Dries Van Noten menswear show (similar to a beachy pareo) and on Emma, Marie Claire’s fashion features editor, at work one day, I was sold. So simple and so incredibly cool.
LOAD UP ON THE JEWELRY:
The more skin you’re showing, the more room you have for piles and piles of jewelry. None of that taking one thing off before you leave the house stuff over here. Add! Add! Add! Necklaces, anklets, bracelets—the more the better. And mix metals, beads, and materials while you’re at it. To me, this just screams “summer!”
USE A BUTTON-UP TO ADD INTEREST TO YOUR LOOK:
If you don’t follow Amy Smilovic on Substack, you’re really missing out. Especially when it comes to her posts on packing for her various travels. As I was reading this edition, I noticed tons of photos where she had a button-up shirt tied around her waist—a trick that works if you’re going from blistering heat to blasting AC. She ties it to the side, also almost like a pareo, instead of the traditional way. I can’t wait to try this one.
