Can I tell you a secret? I’ve always been intimidated by loud, saturated color combinations. I often gravitate toward neutrals—mocha mousse and vanilla are my favorites—because they're inherently reliable. Subdued and soft, these shades cycle through my outfit rotation with ease (which is especially important for a pragmatist like myself, whose personal style thrives on versatility).
With that said, I’ve recently been inspired to step out of my color-palette comfort zone—thanks to the Spring 2026 runways, where designers showcased unconventional mash-ups that surprisingly made sense.
At Chloé, Creative Director Chemena Kamali combined butter yellow and cool blue, demonstrating that this season’s most viral pastels can co-exist. Chanel made a case for bubblegum pink and merlot, embracing the vibrant pairing with a brooch-adorned button-down and a sweeping skirt. (Don’t be shocked if you catch me wearing this outfit formula on repeat this spring—thank you, Matthieu Blazy). Meanwhile, Prada teamed chartreuse alongside burgundy, a wacky blend that’s been quietly taking over the fashion crowd.
With so many irresistible combos to choose from, I couldn’t help but make an edit of the best looks. Scroll on to find color schemes that are so wrong, they’re right. Best of all, these styles are entirely wearable, and I’ve shopped out each combination to prove it.
Cool Blue & Butter Yellow
Sandy Liang, Chloé, and Tory Burch.
Pastels for spring aren’t groundbreaking, but designers like Sandy Liang, Chloé, and Tory Burch offered fresh takes on the traditional warm-weather shades. Follow their lead with the polished pieces below—including a sumptuous satin slip dress, a luxe cashmere sweater, and a pair of dainty sandals.
Bubblegum Pink & Merlot
Balenciaga, Chanel, and Tory Burch.
Head-to-toe pink outfits have been trending across catwalks for many seasons now, and we owe it all to fashion’s Barbiecore movement. However, on the Spring 2026 runways, Balenciaga, Chanel, and Tory Burch shook things up a bit by adding merlot into the mix. This harmonious combination is one that deserves a prime spot in every wardrobe.
Lavender & Scarlet Red
Carolina Herrera, Prada, and Stella McCartney.
I can’t lie to you, I did not see this combo coming. Worn independently, scarlet and lavender hold their own. But together, these striking shades are that much more powerful. Take style notes from Carolina Herrera, Prada, and Stella McCartney if you want to make a statement this spring.
Chartreuse & Burgundy
Prada, Balmain, and Ulla Johnson.
It's possible to style red and green without conveying a Christmas-coded message. Instead of choosing shades of pine and poinsettia, opt for chartreuse and burgundy. You’ll be surprised by how well these two spirited hues come together.
Chocolate Brown & Baby Blue
Baum und Pferdgarten, Staud, and Tory Burch.
As someone who grew up in the early 2000s, I can confidently say that blending chocolate brown and baby blue is so Y2K. (I’m currently having flashbacks of Limited Too and Vera Bradley—IYKYK.) Decades later, this nostalgic pairing is back for another spin around fashion's trend cycle, and I’m here for it.
Moss Green & Sandy Beige
Balmain, Chloé, and Isabel Marant.
During Spring 2026’s fashion week circuit, several top-tier labels rooted their collections in earthy shades of moss green and sandy beige. Channel your inner nature girl and go full-on gorpcore with the outdoorsy pieces below.
Strawberry Red & Sky Blue
Miu Miu, Diotima, and Prada.
Move over, cherry red! Strawberry shades are taking center stage this season. Miu Miu, Diotima, and Prada fused the sweet hue with sky blue, creating high-contrast outfits in the process. I plan to embrace a similar sense of dopamine dressing with a pair of palazzo-style blue jeans, a fiery top, and matching mesh flats.
