Growing up in southern Massachusetts, I was exposed to coastal style firsthand. There were, of course, the summer people who visited from June to August wearing crisp, perfectly tailored button-ups and expensive brands I'd never heard of. Then there were the locals, who wore equally stylish, yet more utilitarian looks to accommodate a day working on or by the water.
While the aesthetics of both parties vary slightly, the common denominator was that everyone always looked seriously elegant. And nailing Cape style doesn't require having enough money to buy a waterfront house in Chatham—you just need to lean into classic prints (yes, stripes), breezy materials (linen and cottons), and timeless silhouettes.
To help you get the look for less, I scoured Walmart for the best Cape-approved styles. Shop my finds, which start at just $5.
