Big Girl in a Skinny World at Fashion Week: 3 Plus-Size Fashion Trends

Hello Ladies,
Spring is right around the corner, and I can’t wait. My closet is already well stocked with spring’s latest trends. I have to say that this spring, in particular, big girls should have no problems translating the best of the spring runway looks for their own wardrobes. There were many interesting trends that would work for all sizes, but here are my top three: Pattern was all over the runways this season. Shows like Dries von Noten, Balenciaga and Versace sent multiple patterns mixed and matched down the catwalk. Though many curvy girls opt for black-on-black ensembles that camouflage, consider incorporating some bold patterned piece into your tried and true looks. Another big trend this spring: minimalism. Not surprisingly, Calvin Klein (as designed by Francisco Costa), the master of minimalism, owned the trend for spring. The looks were simple and sleek—lots of white and clean lines. As a big girl, I hate fussy clothes that gather and pinch in all the wrong places. Calvin’s looks were all about simple elegance. Other shows with the same feel were Celine, Donna Karan and Yves Saint Laurent. Another upside to minimal pieces: their versatility. They can easily take you from one season to the next and match well with other pieces and styles. There is no doubt that the military look is in. Balmain headlined the look with more military influence than one can count—olive greens, strong shoulders, epaulettes. Fortunately for the curvy girl, the military trend is all about structure, which helps to define waistlines! If you need to fill in your wardrobe with a few last minute purchases try these: For a print with visual interest, consider the Calvin Klein Sleeveless Modern Print Knit. If you are looking for a clean slate, try INC’s Sleeveless Pleated Dress with Pockets. And, to satisfy your military cravings, pick up Gap’s Camp Shirt or New York and Company’s Cotton Military vest. Looking forward to trying out any other spring trends? Let me know!
