So Apparently Porn Is Making Fewer People Get Married?

Wondering why you're not busy being proposed to? New research says that, um, it might be porn's fault. As in, the rise of free Internet porn could, according to scientists, be to blame for the decline in marriages.

German researchers published their study in the Institute for the Study of Labor and focused specifically on young men. They used data from 1,500 participants to figure out how these subjects interacted with the Internet between 2000 and 2004, whether it was for porn or other purposes.

What did they find? More Internet use in general was linked to lower marriage rates, which is interesting, and porn had an even stronger effect when isolated. 

According to the Washington Post, this trend can't be explained by the fact that married men might not need to watch porn as often as single men. Study author Michael Malcolm told the newspaper that back in the day, a main motivation for getting married was the chance to finally do the deed. But today, watching porn is a way to be sexually satisfied without having to tie the knot. Combine that with the fact that premarital sex is socially acceptable in most of American culture, and guys might not feel the need to get hitched at all.

Another fun fact? According to the study, 13 percent of all Internet searches are for erotic content. 'Fess up, ladies: We know it's not just the gents who are doing those Google searches...
