In a shocking announcement yesterday, Universal Studios and Focus Features jointly confirmed that actor Charlie Hunnam has dropped out as the male lead in the film adaption of the erotic novel series "Fifty Shades of Grey." The studio contributes the decision to the Sons of Anarchy star's "immersive TV schedule," however shoot dates had been cleared in advance of his accepting the role, so it begs the question: was the pressure of becoming the sado-masochistic, billionaire sex god millions of women around the globe have privately lusted after page-after-page proving to be too much?
Hunnam, 33, beat out many a sexy Hollywood man in September including Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder to land the role of the elusive Christian Grey playing opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. With the film, which has already been given an August 1st, 2014 release date, scheduled to start shooting in November the studio will need to act fast. And with the increased publicity possibility proving too much for a gorgeous Brit, will some of the earlier contenders still be in the running or will filmmakers need to go back to the drawing board?
