If you were a diehard The Vampire Diaries fan whose allegiance has transferred to Riverdale now that TVD has tragically ended, last night's episode of Riverdale had a nice little nod to that you may or may not have caught.
You know Thistlehouse, the house Cheryl and Penelope Blossom are living in after Cheryl set Thornhill, their old home, on fire?
Does it look familiar, or what?
Well, it's TOTALLY familiar, because the house was the original Salvatore Boarding House in The Vampire Diaries. Oh, and Julie Plec, the executive producer behind TVD, just happened to direct last night's episode that the building was featured in!
“It was so funny, I had seen Thistlehouse on camera but it hadn’t registered with me,” Julie shared in a new interview with Bustle about the unintentional connection. “And when we pulled up the driveway for the location scout to go see it, I was like, ‘This is so familiar. I feel like I’ve been here before.’”
When she realized the connection, it was a pretty welcome surprise.
“I actually took a good look at the house and realized it was the Salvatore House from [The Vampire Diaries] pilot. Isn’t that hilarious?" she mused. "Because we shot the pilot in Vancouver [before moving to Atlanta for the series]. And the backyard of it which is so gorgeous is where we built our cemetery. That was a nice flashback!"
We suggest taking this connection one step forward: Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev make an appearance in Riverdale as a happy, married couple. GENIUS...we know.
