If you've been struggling to come to terms with the knowledge that there are only two seasons left of Game of Thrones, fear not. HBO has closed deals with four separate writers—two male and two female—to explore "multiple spinoffs" from the series, Variety reports.
Vague? Sure, and that's because there is no timeline or release date set for the potential spinoff(s). "We'll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in," an HBO spokesperson said.
The four writers under contract are Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kingsman), Brian Helgeland (LA Confidential), and Carly Wray (Mad Men and The Leftovers). Goldman and Wray will both work separately with George R.R. Martin on their projects, while Game of Thrones showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff will be attached to all four projects, but not as writers.
HBO doesn't have a track record of commissioning spinoffs, but it's no surprise they're keen to stay in the Westeros game for as long as possible.
