Watch the Trailer for Kit Harington's Explosive New Show

He's returning to screens much sooner than 'GoT' Season 8...

Guy Fawkes and Co.'s failed Gunpowder Plot is one of Britain's best-known tales—and the first pictures for the BBC's adaptation of the story have finally arrived.

Gunpowder, which stars Game of Thrones's Kit Harington and Downton Abbey's Tom Cullen, is set in 1605 and explores the planning and failed execution of blowing up Parliament.

The 30-second trailer follows a trail of gunpowder into a cellar where Guy Fawkes (Cullen) is lyingin wait.

It's not long before we get to see the Gunpowder Plot's mastermind, Robert Catesby (Harington), a gentleman who was the driving force behind the failed plot.

We'll have to wait a bit longer to see any actual fireworks—or not, as is more likely.

Gunpowder follows Catesby as he struggles as a Catholic man in Protestant England, which was dragging him to the edge of financial, social, and psychological ruin. After the death of his wife and father, he begins recruiting friends and family to help him carry out the now-infamous Gunpowder Plot.

The rest of the cast are a pretty impressive bunch, with Mark Gatiss playing Chief Robert Cecil, spymaster and head of torture of the Catholics.

Liv Tyler, meanwhile, plays Catesby's cousin Anne Vaux, the one person worried about the whole idea.

The 17th-century thriller will delve into the history behind the evolution of the plot, the band of rogues who planned to carry it out, and the challenges they faced in trying to make it happen.

Gunpowder will air on BBC One in the autumn.
