It's nearly impossible to have a conversation about fall fashion without mentioning outerwear. From sumptuous suede jackets to tailored trench coats, these quintessential autumn staples often take center stage. But I’d like to argue that the shirts beneath them deserve just as much attention. Even when styled under layers, the best blouses can add a dynamic edge to any cold-weather outfit. For that reason, I’m taking a deep dive into the most coveted Fall 2026 top trends.

On the Fall 2026 runways, Chloé showcased modest high-neck blouses that embraced elements of poet-core. On the other hand, Fendi took the opposite approach, opting for plunging V-shaped necklines with a sultry appeal. Meanwhile, Jil Sander favored tight tops that boasted second-skin silhouettes. Elsewhere, textured fabrics and prints made an appearance: Altuzarra enhanced its collection with boho-chic ruffles, Ulla Johnson displayed shimmering sequins, and Tibi played around with plaid.

Inspired by these styles, I’ve put together a curated shopping guide that will help me to round out my rotation of fall tops—and yours, too. Ahead, discover a range of shirts that will rise to any occasion this season. Whether you’re searching for a casual top for a day spent apple picking, or a dressy blouse for a night on the town, you’ll find everything you could possibly need below.

Earlier this year, Pinterest predicted “poet-core” as one of the top fashion trends of 2026. Months later, the style is still going strong, and high-neck blouses are defining the look. Lean into the literary-inspired aesthetic by wearing a top with dramatic flared collars or keep things simple with a draped neckline.

Whichever option you choose, make sure to complete your look with chocolate brown pants, à la Ralph Lauren, Chloé, and Sergio Hudson. This polished outfit formula will make you look like you’ve spent hours reading William Shakespeare.

What’s an autumn wardrobe without a dash of plaid? The quintessential fall pattern took over the runways of Tibi, Dries van Noten, and Acne Studios. And now, it’s about to find a spot in your wardrobe. Sprawled across long-sleeve tops, mock-neck shirts, and button-downs, this checkered print makes quite a statement. Allow it to do most of the talking by pairing it with solid-colored separates and simple accessories.

Form-fitting shirts are perhaps one of the most versatile fall staples. Styled without any layers, they can easily stand alone with a floaty midi skirt and polished heels. And when temperatures drop, they'll look just as good peaking out beneath cashmere sweaters and barn jackets.

Take notes from Kallmeyer and Miu Miu by choosing joyful hues that will make your outfits feel more whimsical. If saturated shades aren’t really your thing, copy Jil Sander and adhere to a neutral color palette.

Defined by a plunging neckline, these sultry shirts are inherently romantic. Wear them for your next date night alongside a slip skirt and kitten heels, and prepare to receive endless compliments.

Hop on the bohemian bandwagon with ruffled tops that have a ‘70s flair. While these frilly shirts are undeniably vintage, you can still make them feel modern. Altuzarra, Sandy Liang, and Chloé demonstrated how to do so by incorporating contemporary fashion trends like high-vamp heels, lace-trimmed bottoms, and oversized outerwear.
