Jenna Ortega Taps Into TikTok's \201cUnexpected Red Theory" With Wine-Colored Loafers
This simple styling hack can enhance any outfit.

Right now, there’s a concept swirling around DesignTok called the “unexpected red theory.” Essentially, the idea suggests that when strategically styled, a pop of red will instantly elevate any room in your home—and the rule applies to fashion, as well. If you haven’t yet bought into this theory, just take a look at Jenna Ortega’s most recent outfit, and perhaps you’ll reconsider.
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, Ortega was photographed in Venice, Italy ahead of the 81st Venice International Film Festival. Her "dark academia"-inspired outfit was made primarily of neutrals, save for a pair of platform loafers in a rich shade of burgundy.
Her fiery shoes stole the show, but they weren't the only shock of red her outfit featured. Ortega also wore a bright, cherry-colored tee that contrasted spectacularly with her dark footwear.

Surprising hints of red aside, there are certainly other parts of Ortega’s look that are well worth mentioning. She tapped into method dressing, once again, in a black-and-white plaid blazer styled over a khaki pleated skirt. The jacket's checked pattern is a not-so-subtle nod to Lydia Deetz, the lead character in the 1988 horror-comedy Beetlejuice. Ortega will star as Lydia's daughter Astrid in the upcoming sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Ortega’s themed outfit follows a handful of other Beetlejuice-inspired looks she's worn in recent weeks. Just days ago, the star recreated Lydia's school uniform to a T, wearing a green plaid skirt and a white button-down shirt designed by Thom Browne. She finished her look with a dark blue cardigan and carried a purse that resembled the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, a book from the original film.

Earlier this month, the actress slipped into a custom Lurline dress decorated with frightening shrunken heads—in Beetlejuice green, of course.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to premiere on Friday, September 6, so you’ll have to wait a bit to see Ortega on the big screen. In the meantime, consider trying the star's "unexpected red" look, which you can shop below.
