Storm Trooper

On the eve of Hurricane Sandy's landfall, while New Yorkers scurried for emergency provisions, Heidi Klum arrived early for her 10 a.m. call time at Milk Studios in downtown Manhattan, with nary a hair out of place. If her thigh-high Jimmy Choo boots, Elise Overland leather pants, and All Saints tee spoke to a certain survivor-chic, it was perhaps intentional. Klum, whose current relationship with her bodyguard has come under scrutiny, is no stranger to weathering storms. But all was calm. For lunch: kale salad and caramel cheesecake — no ice chip diet for this supe! — plus a delicious helping of Project Runway gossip with MC Creative Director Nina Garcia. Singing along to the indie musings of Miike Snow, the model mom and mogul eased into the polished trappings of Tom Ford, Lanvin, and Maison Martin Margiela, a fierce force of nature getting stronger by the minute. —Ashley Ross
