All That Glitters

All That Glitters

As a little girl, nothing in my makeup collection was ever too shiny or too glittery. Although my love for all things sparkly hasn't changed, looking like a 26-year-old disco ball just doesn't seem appropriate, even for a night out.

Rocking glitter makeup the adult way is all about moderation. I like to incorporate the pizazz by focusing on one feature that I want to highlight and playing down the rest of my look.

One of the easiest ways to experiment with sparkle is to apply it to your eyes. Choose a shadow with flecks of glitter, like VS Makeup Shimmer Fierce Shadow Duo, $15. Or, try a glitter liquid liner that gleams just enough when it hits the light. I adore Sephora's Collection Long-Lasting Eye Liner in Glitter Khaki, $11.

A swirl of shimmer to the apples of your cheeks is fun, but also age and office-appropriate. Experiment with NARS Blush in Oasis, $28, which delivers a gorgeous flush of color and just the right sheen.

If you're too timid to hit the glitter ground running, try adding just a hint of shine to your nails. I like to swipe a coat of glitter nail polish on one finger. My favorite (and the shade I'm wearing in this photo) is Essie's Silver Bullions, $8, which makes for a perfectly playful manicure!
