Felicity Jones will star as Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in a new biopic, Variety reports. The British actress is taking over from Natalie Portman, who has been attached to the project since 2015.
On the Basis of Sex is an upcoming biopic directed by Mimi Leder, which will follow Ginsburg's life and the obstacles she faced in her fight for equal rights throughout her career. Ginsburg—who is now 84 and remains an associate justice of the court's liberal wing—was the second female justice ever appointed after Sandra Day O'Connor.
While it was never confirmed that Portman would be playing the role, she told Good Morning America last year that she found the idea of portraying Ginsburg "extremely inspiring and intimidating." No reason has been given for why it did not work out.
Filming for On the Basis of Sex will commence in Montreal this September.
