Bono's Daughter Eve Hewson Talks 'the Knick,' Her *Real* Name, and Wanting to Be J.Lo's Backup Dancer
"I have my dad's attention-seeking gene."
At 24 years old, the Irish actress—now a bonafide Brooklynite—is poised to become a phenom in her own right. Here, the Knick star tells us everything.
The Name Game: My full name is Memphis Eve Sunny Day Hewson. My parents are always coming up with new stories as to why. Apparently, it was a sunny day when I was born, and with Memphis, it's everything from me having so much hair I resembled Elvis at birth to being conceived there.
Trait Secrets: I have my dad's attention-seeking gene. I always knew I was going to perform in some way.
School of Rock: I played the viola, bass, piano, drums, and guitar growing up. I had a band with my best friend when I was 11 called Ten Past Two, because that was when school let out. We thought we were so cool.
Hidden Talent: I grew up hip-hop dancing. I'd love to be J.Lo's backup dancer. At auditions, they ask, "Can you dance?" And I'm like, "Oh, can I?!"
Favorite Designers: Reformation is so flattering! I'm also a bit of a Chanel freak. For red carpets, I like Jeremy Scott, Givenchy, and Dior.
Screen Time: At first it's a shock, like "OMG! That's what I look like?" But you have to get past your ego because, as an actress, you learn so much from watching yourself. I don't sit down with a bowl of popcorn—I'm usually in the kitchen drinking tequila while everyone else is watching.

Next Up: Season two of the hit Cinemax series The Knick, premiering October 16, and opposite Tom Hanks in Cold War–era drama Bridge of Spies, out October 16.
Style File: My sense of style is more boyish and punk than feminine and dressy. I take fashion inspiration from rockers like Debbie Harry and Patti Smith. But I also love Rihanna and Lykke Li. I'm a total backpack and Dr. Martens kind of girl.
