It's been over a year since Joan Rivers left us, but her spirit is living on not just through her legacy, but also in Jennifer Lawrence's new film Joy

The movie, directed by David O. Russell, is inspired by IRL entrepreneur Joy Mangano (played by Lawrence), whose character goes for a taping on Rivers' QVC show. Naturally, there was no one better suited for the role of Rivers than her daughter, Melissa, and it's all the more clear when you see the pics, which People has revealed exclusively.

The big hair, unapologetic costume jewelry, and pronounced-shoulder blazer? She's totally on the money—so much so that it spooks Melissa herself.

"I think I was more freaked out in the hair and makeup tests than I was once I got on set," Rivers said. "It was bizarre. I stopped looking in a mirror."

Joy hits theaters on Christmas Day.
