Country singer Luke Bryan kicked off Super Bowl LI with the National Anthem—the first male artist to perform the National Anthem solo since 2007, when Billy Joel sang.
Bryan follow a long list of singers who have performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, including this year's halftime performer Lady Gaga. Other past singers include Whitney Houston, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, and Aaron Neville, CBS reports. A very excited Bryan announced the news in January on Twitter.
He made good on all the excitement and hype and delivered a stellar performance, which featured some moving footage of soldiers stationed in Kuwait standing for the anthem as well.
