'Black Panther' Is Officially the Highest-Grossing Superhero Movie in U.S. History

'Black Panther' has passed 'The Avengers' as the top-grossing superhero movie of all time in the United States.

Black Panther has been smashing box office records since it premiered in February. It's latest achievement: Dethroning the juggernaut that is The Avengers as the top-grossing superhero movie of all time in the United States (not accounting for inflation).

The movie, directed by Ryan Coogler, passed The Avengers on March 24. In addition to besting Tony Stark and company, Black Panther is one of just seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically.

Globally, Black Panther still has some records left to break. According to BillboardBlack Panther will rank third worldwide for comic book adaptations, just behind The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which earned $1.5 billion and $1.4 billion, respectively. Black Panther has currently pulled in $1.2 billion worldwide.

All of these numbers point to one thing: A whole lot of yes for every moviegoer who wants to see more diversity in film.
