Sweater weather is here. (Speaking of: Have you caught up on fall 2023's sweater trends?) The unofficial queen of chic autumn dressing, Katie Holmes, just showed us how to kick off the cozy season properly. The actress shined on the streets of New York City this week in a chunky, colorful knit done in a speckled, tie-dye-like intarsia. (We believe the brand behind her kaleidoscopic option to be Gabriela Hearst—Holmes' rainbow sweater looks incredibly similar to the female designer's Lawrence knit—but we've yet to 100 percent confirm the credit.)
Consider her latest sartorial statement a sign: It might very well be time to retire your plain sweater (that occasionally feels boring—sorry!) to instead opt for something more eye-catching and dopamine-inducing like Holmes' colorful sweater. Try trading in your old-school, cream, and navy sweaters for a fun, graphic pullover.

Holmes completed her easy fall look with some dark wide-leg pants. On the accessories tip, she finished off the outfit with a giant tote in dark red (the color trend of the moment) and shielded her eyes from the sun with some classic oval sunglasses. Per usual, Holmes’ hair was up in a classic, “mom duty” messy bun. She strolled the sidewalks in her favorite black horse-bit loafers—equestrian styles are always in—and a bright red phone case. This probably wasn’t planned to be part of the outfit, but it added another fun pop of color to the autumn ensemble.
