Created by Muslim designer Aheda Zanetti in Sydney, Australia, the burkini was originally designed as a way for women bound by the Islamic code of female modesty to enjoy the beach. Soon after, everyone went "bezonkers," Zanetti says, including fair-skinned non-Muslims looking to avoid sun damage. But how will the burkini play in L.A.? We got our hands on one of the first to hit U.S. shores.
