Just when you thought Shonda Rhimes had to give Meredith Grey a break, she goes and does this. In the just-released trailer for the midseason premiere of Grey's Anatomy, Meredith is shown getting brutally attacked by a patient in the hospital. In the episode, which is directed by Denzel Washington, the patient pushes her into a wall and nearly chokes her to death. The trailer shows her coworkers rushing to care for her, and Alex even kissing her forehead, along with the text, "You can't escape the silence."

Does this mean she loses her hearing? The show comes back Feb. 11, and if past seasons are any indication, literally anything could happen. "It is as terrifying and as shocking as you would expect for it to be," Kelly McCreary, who plays Meredith's half-sister Maggie, told TV Line. "Get ready to have your guts feel like they're coming out of you, because it is truly harrowing."
