Update 7/16: The newest trailer for Ricki and the Flash is here, and it does not disappoint. Meryl—we mean, Ricki—is a rocker mom whose return home sparks a series of emotions and introspection for all of her children, and her of course.
Original story, 5/7: Meryl Streep continues to demonstrate her performing prowess as a guitar-wielding superstar and unconventional mom in the trailer for Ricki and the Flash.
Streep plays Ricki Rendazzo,a leather jacket donning, tattooed musician who returns home from touring after finding out that her daughter's fiancé has left her. While staying with her ex-husband and his current wife, Ricki comes to realize how strained her relationships with her children truly are. To top if off, her ex-husband's wife is unafraid to take jabs at her absenteeism, and her son tries to hide his engagement to keep from having to invite her to the wedding.
Through it all, Ricki continues to reach out to her family, in hopes to work past her screw-ups.
"I was never a traditional mom," Ricki says. "But I am a musician and I'd like to give all I have to you."
Ricki and the Flash will hit theaters Aug. 7.
