I’m Embracing a Tankini Girl Summer With These Trendy Swimsuits

So long, string bikinis.

Around this time last year, countless TikTok influencers championed tankinis as the swimwear trend of 2024. Some content creators posted “how to style” videos, wearing the two-piece look alongside beach-ready basics like Bermuda shorts, flip-flops, and woven bags. Others showed off tankini hauls, revealing the exact swimsuit brands turning them into tankini fans.

I'll admit it: I didn't believe the trend would prevail. Now, I'll admit the tankini craze can tread water. Marie Claire’s Style Director Sara Holzman recently discovered that the phrase “strapless tankini” is a top-trending search term on Google. As summer rolls on, more women are diving into their tankini eras: Google’s search volume for “swimsuit tankini” has increased 83 percent compared to 12 months ago.

Designers predicted modest two-pieces would be serious competition for string bikinis this summer and assembled their collections accordingly. Staud offers a beaded alternative drenched in a juicy shade of Granny Smith green. Nike’s version features a sporty edge with a durable lace-up design that provides lap-swimming-proof support. Meanwhile, Frankies Bikinis is embracing lingerie dressing with a tankini top that resembles a sculpted corset.

Finally inspired to test-drive the swimwear style for myself, I’ve put together an assortment of tankinis that won over my inner skeptic. Scroll on to find your favorite before the trend makes an even bigger splash.

It's no secret It girls are hooked on Staud’s beaded sardine bag, but let’s not overlook the label’s striking tankini set. Allow this style to take center stage by pairing it with neutral separates, like white linen shorts and black sandals.

Try out the gingham trend with More to Come’s checkered two-piece. Dainty bows give it a charming, Dolly Parton-inspired twang.

Editor-in-Chief Nikki Ogunnaike recently shared that Left on Friday is one of her go-to swimwear brands. Eager to try out the editor-approved label, I’ve added this stunning lavender number to my shopping cart.

As someone who loves a good game of seaside volleyball, I’m incorporating Nike’s tankini into my beach outfit rotation. It’s designed with extra coverage and sufficient support—which means jumping around won’t pose a problem.

For a vibrant splash of color, consider Beach Riot’s cropped option. Slip into this tankini, and you’ll make a saturated statement.

If you’re not looking to break the bank, reach for this sleek co-ord from Andie. Each piece falls under $100. (Translation: Your wallet will thank you.)

Have you heard of Urban Outfitters’ exclusive brand, Out From Under? If not, check out this ruffled tankini top—which can easily cosplay as a going-out shirt if styled with pants and heels.

For a sultry take on the tankini trend, opt for this choice from Frankies Bikinis. It’s ideal for showing some skin.

While Pucci prints and plaid are among the most sought-after patterns of summer 2025, florals aren’t going anywhere. Lilly Pulitzer will be the first to co-sign this statement.

Faithfull’s bandeau-style tankini is cut from recycled stretch fabric. Not only will you look great in this striped set, but you’ll feel even better about your eco-friendlier purchase.

Decorated with a floral appliqué, Maygel Coronel’s sweet tankini is rooted in fashion’s girlhood aesthetic. Delicate details like ruched fabric and a halter-neck design make this swimsuit feel even more feminine.

Calling all the minimalists! Athleta's black tankini is for you. Crafted with a streamlined shade and an uncomplicated silhouette, this piece will easily cycle through your swimsuit collection.

Forget butter yellow—I’m sampling the chocolate brown color trend with this Lands' End tankini. However, if earth-toned neutrals aren’t your thing, this style is also offered in a green floral pattern.
