Pinterest is an endless stream of beauty inspiration, but too often it's presented without commentary *or* styling tips. So when we rounded up the top pinned natural hairstyles on Pinterest, we looked to Vernon François, Lupita Nyong'o's hairstylist and curly hair extraordinaire, to weigh in with his expert eye.

"With an afro pick, teasing hair at the roots is a quick and easy way to add volume to your curls," he explains. "It's also a great way to stretch out your curls in between washes. If you're looking for a way to take your big, fluffy curls to the next level, add bangs for a modern and funky take on big hair."

2. Bandana Curls

"A regular nighttime routine for curly hair includes wrapping the hair with a silk scarf as it's a great way to lock in moisture and protect curls from breakage and damage," he says. "For a quick way to style curls on the go, take that same nighttime hair routine and bring it to the day with a patterned or colorful silk scarf. Curls are still protected, moisture is retained, and the same scarf that was positioned as a hair savior just transitioned into a fun and easy accessory to showcase those curls."

3. Cornrow Undercut with Voluminous Curls

"This style is a reincarnation of old-school cornrows," explains François. "Braid a portion of the hair before letting your voluminous curls free. For an edgier look, part the hair and braid one side to reveal cascading curls."

4. Flower-Spangled Afro

"Have a little fun with flowers this festival season!" he says. "Spruce up any texture of hair with some flirty accessories to refresh your everyday look."

5. The Ringlet Pile-On

"Topknots are the style of the moment and are a chic way to pull the hair up and elongate your bone structure," he says. "For the best results, keep your topknots unstructured. The looser and messier the better!"

6. Oversized Bun with Ringlet Wisps

Most Popular

"For the days when your curls start to look a little dull, or when you want to stretch out your look before washing, pulling the hair back into a high, messy ponytail is your go-to for effortless style," says François.

7. Double Buns

"Double buns are a creative take on the half-up, half-down style, but with two fun buns added," he says. "It's a trendy, youthful take that is and full of sass and style."

8. The Classic Half-Up, Half-Down

"The half-up, half-down style is the best of both worlds for curly hair," he explains. "You can keep it cool with an undone ponytail, while also keeping it funky with loose and free-falling curls. To hold the look together, apply some type of gel or edge control to keep flyaways in place."

9. The Bunhawk

"The bunhawk is an easy way to pull the hair off the face and showcase your inner badass," says François. "Varying layers of curls mixed in with a funky bun is a fun re-do of the traditional mohawk."
