One of the cornerstones of downtown Manhattan-based retailer Opening Ceremony is family. Since its inception in 2002, founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have discovered and nurtured a select group of young, wildly creative designers—Rodarte, Jeremy Scott, and SUNO, to name a few—often taking them under their wing while they're still relative unknowns in the industry.
Something we learned last night is that this family is a very happy one—to celebrate its landmark 10th anniversary, Opening Ceremony threw a rager, and hundreds of the brand's devotees showed up to take part in the festivities. An impressive number of OC's famous fans got down with the rest of us—Chloe Sevigny, Alexander Wang, Kirsten Dunst, Paris Hilton, and Erin Wasson were all seen emerging from the steamy dance floor over the course of the evening.
At Webster Hall, the OC crew took us back in time where some of New York's most iconic parties from the past 10 years were revived for one night only. On three differently-themed floors, DJs spun an incredible array of the decade's best tunes. From the retro rock sounds of the MisShapes to the some of the best early '90s pop and hip-hop we could imagine—think: Mariah Carey - "Honey"—the ground on each story shook with excitement. In true birthday party fashion, there was confetti, glowsticks, balloons, and a special bar that served up Magnolia cupcakes and Momofuku Milk Bar cookies. In all, it was a sweaty, nostalgic love fest.
Just when the night seemed like it couldn't get any more legendary, Lil' Kim took the stage for a surprise performance just before 2 a.m.—a fitting finale to the evening's '90s redux. For those few hours, everyone danced and sang along together as part of the Opening Ceremony family, even if it was just for one night.
