Salvatore Ferragamo Women's Resort 2012

Staged at the majestic Duke Mansion on Manhattan's Millionaire Row of Fifth Avenue, Salvatore Ferragamo presented Women's Resort 2012 — a luxuriously feminine collection featuring flowing gowns, nautically inspired separates and accessories.

The first fashion house to present in the mansion, the backdrop created the perfect setting for the subtle pallette of ocean blues and cream-hued looks that designer Massimillano Gironetti sent down the runway. Inspire by the 1930s, Gironetti played with classic themes, fabrics and textures, and incredible beading to create pieces that ranged from light and airy to exaggerated and dramatic.

For Ferragamo's first resort collection to debut in the US, Gironetti said he began designing with a very clear vision of the collection, "I knew how it would be from the beginning, that is how I usually work. The use of blue, sky blue, navy blue….I knew I wanted to reinvent a technique, a lifestyle."

The designer explained his inspiration for the show, saying that he used both New York and the elegant heiresses of the 1930s as muses, "Certainly Doris Duke and that type of woman was the inspiration. The look is glamorous but also very easy, very chic."
