Big Girl in a Skinny World: 1920s Flapper Fashion

Hello Ladies,

Lately I’ve been all about the 1920s, and it seems I’m not the only one who has lace, layers, and drop waists on the mind. Recently while browsing my usual fashion sites, I was elated to find Dorothy Perkins’ amazing selection of ‘20s-inspired frocks. This UK fashion site dorothyperkins.com has always been a favorite of mine, but the wide selection of dresses left me wanting to order way too many things.

Their Nude Beaded Lace Bubble Dress is absolutely perfect for the spring. It is available in a cream and grey variation, and looks far more expensive than its ticket price (£35, which is about $54 right now). Another great thing about this lace number: It isn’t a shapeless box; instead, it slimmingly follows the natural line of your body.

The Grey Lace Ruffle Sleeve Dress is another lacy item you should consider for your closet, as it’ll work perfectly for day or evening. For a going-out look with a flapper inspiration, I would consider their Black Lace Tiered Dress. A great variation of the LBD, this dress can be worn to just about any event, be it a night on the town with the girls, a wedding, or a fashion event.

Pair any of these dresses with a chunky heel and some loose waves for a roaring twenties feel. For a less literal take on the inspiration try a sky-high stiletto sandal and sleek straight hair, or a tight chignon. No matter how you wear these looks, you can’t go wrong. What do you think: Will you try any of these looks? Do you have a favorite fashion era at the moment?
