Meghan Markle is continuing to speak out about the importance of voting, despite the criticism she is facing for doing so. In recent weeks, she's condemned voter suppression in the United States, and shared why she will be voting in November. And today, the Duchess of Sussex appears alongside journalist, activist, and feminist icon Gloria Steinem in a clip on the MAKERS Women Instagram account for a casual conversation about suffrage.
Over the course of the 1:41 video, the two women discuss why it's critical for young people to cast their ballots this year. "People forget how hard women like you and so many others before you fought for us to just be where we are right now," Meghan says in the clip.

"If you don't vote you don't exist." Steinem responds, with Meghan affirming "mmhmm" and "yeah." It's entirely possibly that Meghan was responding with personal experience there, as senior members of the royal family traditionally do not vote.
Steinem also spoke candidly about her fears that young people are the least likely demographic to vote.
"What worries me the most are young people, who I understand are the least likely to vote, and I can understand the feeling that they don't think they have an impact, and yet it's more important for them to vote than anyone else because they're going to be alive long after I am, and they're going to be suffering the consequences," she says.
But in spite of that, Steinem feels "hopeful." "Today is a great day," she says. Indeed, any day when two dogs—Meghan's pups, Guy and Pula—crash a video shoot, it's practically guaranteed to be a good time.
Watch the clip above. A full Q&A is apparently coming tomorrow.
