Just ahead of the new year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have updated the website for their new non-profit, Archewell. The site was launched in October with just a landing page, but now, the couple has fleshed it out, adding pages for the Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archewell Productions.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also added "A Letter for 2021" to the homepage, along with black-and-white childhood photos of Harry and Meghan with their mothers, writing "I am my mother’s son. And I am our son’s mother. Together we bring you Archewell." The photo of Harry appears to be one taken while he was sitting on Princess Diana's shoulders at Highgrove in 1986.
'The image Harry and Meghan chose to share on their website.'
In the short message, they ask the public to join them as they "work to build a better world, one act of compassion at a time." At the bottom of the homepage, there's also a place for visitors to submit their stories "about how you or somebody you know acted with compassion in the last year," or to "describe when you felt connected with your friends, family, or community, despite the distance."
On the Archewell Foundation page, Harry and Meghan have listed a series of partnerships and projects the non-profit is undertaking, including those with James R. Doty's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), Tristan Harris' Center for Humane Technology, Rachel Cargle's Loveland Foundation, Dr. Safiya Noble and Dr. Sarah T. Roberts' UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, and José Andrés' World Central Kitchen.
The Archewell Audio page features the first episode of Archewell Audio, Harry and Meghan's new podcast with Spotify, as well as a short description of the production company's aims: to "produce programming that uplifts and entertains audiences around the world," and "spotlight diverse perspectives and voices," as well as "build community through shared experiences, powerful narratives, and universal values."
And finally, the Archewell Productions page contains a description of the couple's newly-creation video production company, which was launched after Harry and Meghan inked a landmark deal with Netflix earlier this year. "Archewell Productions will utilize the power of storytelling to embrace our shared humanity and duty to truth through a compassionate lens," the page reads.
Archewell press secretary Toya Holness told Town & Country, “Founded earlier this year by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell uplifts communities through non-profit partnerships and creative activations. It’s a place where compassion matters, communities gather, and storytelling is the engine. The website has been updated to reflect the work Archewell has undertaken throughout 2020 and to create a place for people and communities around the world to share their stories.”
Peruse the website here—and read the Duke and Duchess's full "Letter for 2021" below:
I am my mother’s son.
And I am our son’s mother.
Together we bring you Archewell.
We believe in the best of humanity.
Because we have seen the best of humanity.
We have experienced compassion and kindness,
From our mothers and strangers alike.
In the face of fear, struggle and pain,
It can be easy to lose sight of this.
Together, we can choose courage, healing, and connection.
Together, we can choose to put compassion in action.
We invite you to join us.
As we work to build a better world,
One act of compassion at a time.
