Taking over an iconic role is no easy feat. Especially when it comes to a beloved character like Mary Poppins. But Emily Blunt is ready—now that she has Julie Andrews' blessing.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Mary Poppins Returns actress recounted that although she hadn't talked with Andrews directly, director Rob Marshall had spoken with the OG Poppins. "Rob said he was in the Hamptons, and he saw [Andrews], and he said, 'It's top secret, but Emily Blunt's playing Mary Poppins,'" Blunt recounts. "And she went, 'Oh, wonderful!'"

"I felt like I wanted to cry," Blunt says. "It was lovely to get her stamp of approval. That took the edge off it, for sure."
