Last night marked the 50th anniversary of the CFDA Fashion Awards, the Council of Fashion of Designers of America's annual celebration of the industry's best and brightest. Each year, the CFDA Fashion Awards Selection Committee — a council of more than 400 CFDA members, journalists, stylists, and select retailers — votes for exemplary contributors in fields such as womenswear, menswear, and accessory design. Think of it as the Oscars of the fashion world.
Ashley and Mary-Kate — showing off a newly brunette mane — Olsen took home Womenswear Designer of the Year for their contemporary (yet classic) line The Row, while Billy Reid snagged Menswear Designer of the Year. Reed Krakoff earned Accessories Designer of the Year for his timeless, utilitarian line of handbags and shoes. Also honored were:
The Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Joseph Altuzarra
The Swarovski Award for Menswear: Phillip Lim
The Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Tabitha Simmons
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Tommy Hilfiger
The Media Award: Scott Schuman and Garance Doré
International Award: Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons
Fashion Icon Award: Johnny Depp
Congratulations to all of the talented nominees, winners, and of course, the crop of well-dressed attendees!
