23 Pretty Transitional Pieces Hiding in Neiman Marcus's Sale Section
Shop transitional pieces that are perfect for this in-between period.
It might be nearly the end of March, but spring weather is nowhere in sight. I'm still stuck wearing the same heavy coats and thick sweaters I've had in rotation since December—and I'm simply desperate to wear some lightweight, colorful spring clothes. To tide me over until spring really arrives, I’ve been shopping the sale section at Neiman Marcus to fill my wardrobe with warm-weather pieces I can save for later, plus a few transitional basics I can layer right now.
While I'm iffy on the actual forecast, I love the challenge of getting dressed during transitional weather. My key to mastering the time between winter and spring (and summer and fall, by association) is having a well-stocked closet full of layer-able basics I can wear in multiple ways. Think: slip dresses that can easily be worn under a cashmere sweater or on their own, or denim maxi skirts perfect for wearing over tights or with white sneakers. A classic blazer can work wonders when layered over a white T-shirt or a fitted knit turtleneck sweater, too. These are classic, high-quality pieces you’ll buy once and wear for years, so it’s best to snag them on sale.
That’s where Neiman Marcus comes in. It has one of my favorite sale sections to browse because it’s always filled with designers I love like Vince, Rails, and Tanya Taylor, all at prices my wallet can get behind. So, I scoured hundreds of products in the section to find the most underrated hits that are still in stock. Keep scrolling for all of the best options.
The burnt orange color of this slip dress from Rails is great for transitional times because it works with bold black and white accessories. Strappy sandals will take into warmer weather, while black boots and tights make it feel appropriate for colder days.
We're not quite out of winter weather just yet. To get you through the tail end of the season, pick up this cozy Rails sweater.
Sure, ski brand FUSALP makes pieces meant to keep you warm on the slopes. But this fitted turtleneck sweater will look just as great with jeans in your hometown on a chilly spring day, I promise.
Denim skirts are having a moment, but Tanya Taylor's option is going to stand the test of time. My favorite way to wear skirts like this is with a pair of knee-high boots for an elongated silhouette, but they will look just as good with a pair of sneakers in the office.
How pretty is this white skirt from JOSLIN? The delicate floral embroidery on the skirt is so sweet. Shop it with the matching top (also on sale), or just team it with a black tank top.
This slip skirt from Enza Costa feels very '90s-inspired. I would wear it with a longer knit in the winter or with a teeny baby tee in the summer. To complete the retro look, don't forget your pointed-toe kitten heels.
The best spring jackets are the ones you can wear over your summer essentials without overheating. This one from Rails fits the bill, and it's on sale for $90 off.
Rain jackets don't need to be uncool. This one from Blanc Noir is ready for wet weather thanks to the high neck and storm-proofed cuffs, but the gold accents make it feel fashion-forward.
The fringe on this jacket feels very country-western inspired, but the olive green colorway and quilted texture clearly take inspiration from a New England stable. Either way, I plan on wearing it for as long as the weather allows.
Button-down shirts are a wardrobe staple, but this cropped one from Rag & Bone feels less formal thanks to the shorter hemline. At a sale price of $140, it's a great way to spice up your going-out rotation.
Vests are an underrated hero in my closet. This one from Theory would work with a pair of white jeans or office-ready black trousers (and it's on sale for $231).
Another day, another sweater I need. This camel-colored pick from Theory is the ultimate quiet luxury find for less than $250 on sale.
Yes, this sequined skirt from Kobi Halperin has a subtle snake print. Because it's so under-the-radar, you can easily wear it more than once without anyone noticing.
Icy blue is one of spring 2024's most dominant color trends. Master the shade by choosing a piece that you would wear anyway—like this slip dress from Vince.
Sweater vests are a great layering option because they keep your chest warm without causing you to feel overheated once you step into the office. This one from cool-girl brand LESET is perfect to layer now and wear on its own later.
Pleated dresses like this one from Polo Ralph Lauren are saviors in my work wardrobe. They're so easy to just throw on when you don't know what else to wear. This one is discounted for over $100 off in the sale.
I know I've already given slip dresses a shout-out in this guide, but this on-sale black option from Vince is the definition of my style: timeless with a twist. The twist in question comes from the crinkled texture (yes, it's intentional).
I consider this Kobi Halperin number the perfect day dress. It's in a neutral colorway, has an easy silhouette, and has enough special detailing to make it feel fresh among your spring dress selection. Oh, and it's on sale now for $448 from an original price of almost $700.
In a world of neutral tops, wear this cobalt blue one from Theory. Lightweight and tailored to a T, it's the best way to add some color into your rotation if you're a fan of only wearing neutrals.
Give your little black dress selection an upgrade with this one from Le Superbe. It's on sale for almost $100 off and has a classic silhouette you'll want to wear to every formal occasion.
Channel rich Upper East Side mom energy with this cashmere and leather-trimmed cape. The quiet luxury energy is strong with this one.
Florals for summer aren't new by any means, but that doesn't mean you should avoid them—they're popular for a reason. This dress from Polo Ralph Lauren has "garden wedding" written all over it.
Styling this button-down from MOTHER with a pair of light wash jeans and a pair of loafers would make the perfect summer work outfit. The breezy fabric is ideal for layering underneath a sweater, too, on colder days.
