It might be nearly the end of March, but spring weather is nowhere in sight. I'm still stuck wearing the same heavy coats and thick sweaters I've had in rotation since December—and I'm simply desperate to wear some lightweight, colorful spring clothes. To tide me over until spring really arrives, I’ve been shopping the sale section at Neiman Marcus to fill my wardrobe with warm-weather pieces I can save for later, plus a few transitional basics I can layer right now.

While I'm iffy on the actual forecast, I love the challenge of getting dressed during transitional weather. My key to mastering the time between winter and spring (and summer and fall, by association) is having a well-stocked closet full of layer-able basics I can wear in multiple ways. Think: slip dresses that can easily be worn under a cashmere sweater or on their own, or denim maxi skirts perfect for wearing over tights or with white sneakers. A classic blazer can work wonders when layered over a white T-shirt or a fitted knit turtleneck sweater, too. These are classic, high-quality pieces you’ll buy once and wear for years, so it’s best to snag them on sale.

That’s where Neiman Marcus comes in. It has one of my favorite sale sections to browse because it’s always filled with designers I love like Vince, Rails, and Tanya Taylor, all at prices my wallet can get behind. So, I scoured hundreds of products in the section to find the most underrated hits that are still in stock. Keep scrolling for all of the best options.
