In the latest saga of dangerous and death-defying architecture (opens in new tab), a plan for an infinity pool (opens in new tab) with 360-degree views was just unveiled—oh, and it's sitting on top of a 55-story skyscraper (opens in new tab) with no exit ladders in sight. What could possibly go wrong?
Compass Pools (opens in new tab), a UK-based company, released their plans for this pool located in London, appropriately titled Infinity London—and the internet had some thoughts. How do we get in? How do we get out? What happens to all of the water spilling over the edges? How is this safe? This infinity pool sounds a lot less enticing when you're worried you'll actually be trapped in it...for infinity.
In their plans, the pool company revealed an entirely transparent floor, so the people below (in the proposed 55-story luxury hotel) can watch everyone doggy-paddling over their heads.
The company admits the design will require some tweaking: "We faced some quite major technical challenges to this building, the biggest one being how to actually get into the pool," said Compass Pool's swimming pool designer and technical director, Alex Kemsley, on the company's website. (opens in new tab) No, duh.
"The solution is based on the door of a submarine, coupled with a rotating spiral staircase, which rises from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out—the absolute cutting edge of swimming pool and building design, and a little bit James Bond to boot!"
I have a ton of thoughts about this proposed plan—and so does the internet. Like me, Twitter was in shambles trying to figure out the logistics of this infinity pool. The internet isn't dumb—we all know what happens to our Sims when pool ladders don't exist.
i have read this whole story twice and studied this picture for 5 minutes and i still have no idea how you're expected to get into this thing https://t.co/Z5yW7SXPzKJune 6, 2019

The exact location of Infinity London has not been confirmed. CNN says (opens in new tab) that construction of the pool could begin in 2020, if partners and contractors are confirmed.
