Big Girl in a Skinny World at Fashion Week: The Best Accessories

Hello Ladies,
It’s day three of New York Fashion Week, and I have been running all over town. Friday night I saw the Nicole Miller show. The look was a thrown-together chic grunge take on the NYC fashionista (think The Sartorialist's New York shots with a bit more toughness). With a mostly black palette, the collection was packed with knits, zippers, and lots of edge. The dresses were to die for, and the leather details were spot on. The best part was that almost every look could be translated into a curvy girls wardrobe! After all, the key to effortless chic grunge is the accessories: Try a great leather jacket, a cool black vest to layer over anything, or a killer pair of peep-toe booties.

Saturday I shuffled from show to show with virtually minutes between lights on, models walking (walkable shoes or, well, a "no pain, no gain" attitude are definitely key this week!). One of my favorite shows of the day was Adam. It was a mix of luxurious but muted colors: terra cotta, grey, cream and silver. A belt or great pair of gloves is the perfect way to introduce the eye-grabbing terra cotta color into your closet. The real showstoppers: the chunky knit scarves. They were present on almost every outfit that graced the runway and were the perfect complimentary item to each look (in your own wardrobes, make sure to keep these wrapped high and thick around your neck -- dangling ends were definitely not part of the look). This collection was all about texture. It featured intricate cable knits sweaters that were detailed with metallic silver. Leather, velour, and thick wools provided the foundation for most of the outfits and sequin details were present in many. Overall, the collection was extremely wearable and luxe.

So far, the collections have not disappointed. It seems that many designers are showing wearable utilitarian items that will see you through the fall. My day today is booked with shows and presentations, so check back soon to find out which shows will have you wishing it were fall already! Check in tomorrow for updates on more shows, and be sure to follow @MarieClaire on Twitter for live updates from the runways.
