Hi, I'm Ning Chao, senior beauty editor at Marie Claire Magazine. Today, I'm speaking with Jan Arnold who's the co-founder and style director of CND which is the really the backstage authority in nails. Hi, Jan. I'm so excited we're here with you today. So how many runway shows do CND do for the fall 2010?
We did 25 of our favorite, favorite designers here in New York.
So being backstage, what did you find were the big trends for fall and how does that translate into nails?
Well, the biggest trend that we saw is a return to military and uniform dressing. For nails, the nails are a little more casual, very wearable. Our favorite color was like a military green. We have a color called Urban Oasis.
Uh huh.
And it's like putting on your jeans. It's a color that you can wear with everything.
So if somebody wants to try doing some of the fall looks earlier like for the summer, what do you think would be appropriate but still feel summery?
I would turn to the Marc Jacobs Show where we did all these various shades of mushroom and gray, we call it grayish, and it's sort of like a khaki way to wear your nails so I would say come August like ease into grayish and then transition into the teal, so it's time to get creative with your nails.
And then what's the hottest pedicure shades for summer?
Summer is always the time to scream toes, like summer comes and goes so quickly, so I say go for a screeching bright fire red. We saw a lot of that on the runways. Wild fire is a color, it's got a little orangey undertone. I would hit it with a super high shine topcoat, you know, so that when you kick off your shoes, you're really thrilled with your toes. I think, you know, summer's the time to have fun.
I'm so excited because you have a new technology with CND.
The product is called Shellac.
Uh huh.
It goes on like a polish but it actually wears tough like a gel and in 14 days, when it's time to take it off, it comes off in minutes.
Great. I can't wait to try it.
Yay, let's go do it now.
My God, I love them. Thanks so much, Jan.
Oh, you're welcome.
