Actress and fashion maven Chloë Sevigny, collaborating with Opening Ceremony, sent urban and untamed looks down the catwalk for her debut runway show last night. She enlisted Thomas Dunkin, Sebastian Professional's lead stylist, to create a look that would capture the rough, youthful and ultra feminine spirit of her 2012 resort collection.
"Chloë knows exactly what she wants. We imagined this as kind of an '80s skater-girl look," Dunkin said of the hairstyle strategy. Dunkin had planned to create an edgy, natural wave with minimal product and a few heat stylers, but once he arrived at the show's location and learned he would be working without air conditioning (temps were in the 90s!) in a cramped, muggy backstage prep area, he decided to improvise by pulling the plugs on the heat tools and styling models hair almost entirely by hand. (Bonus for all of us who want to recreate the 'do at home.)
The look is simple to achieve: Starting with clean hair, stylists saturated tresses with Sebastian Potion 9. After smoothing wet hair back from the forehead, Dunkin worked strands into a rough cowlick — creating a wild, "unplugged" look. He sprayed the finished look with Trilliant Mist to eliminate static. The end results were silky, wild manes that framed the face.
The added plus to this summertime 'do? The humidity actually helps hold the style.
Dunkin hand styled hair instead of using heat tools.
