In yet another move for which royal watchers have been waiting, Kate Middleton and Prince William have reportedly chosen commoner godparents for baby George. Following their decision to break with royal tradition and hold George's christening at the Chapel Royal in St. James' Palace rather than the more traditional Buckingham Palace's music room, the couple have chosen university and school friends to serve as George's godparents.

The role is usually given to people with royal connections, but the Times of London is reporting that the couple are strongly considering close friends Fergus Boyd, Hugh Van Cutsem, and Emilia d'Erlanger to fill three of the six total godparent roles. Boyd, a financier, went to Eton with the Duke and shared a house with the couple at St. Andrew's University. Hugh Van Cutsem is one of Will's oldest friends, and his daughter, Grace, was flower girl at the royal wedding. Emilia d'Erlanger is a college friend of Kate's from Marlborough.

The baptism is scheduled to take place Oct. 23, and will be attended by a select guest list of close family numbering around 60.
