While HBO's Insecure has been leveling up with each week's episode, fans of the show have noticed that despite all the main characters' bed-hopping, there's been something missing; Condoms (opens in new tab), which don't make any obvious appearances in any of the hook-ups that've occurred over the show's two seasons.
Now, show creator and star Issa Rae (opens in new tab) has addressed the case of the missing rubbers on Twitter. Namely, she posted stills of the show showing that condoms were out on characters' bedsides, along with the caption, "We tend to place condoms in the backgrounds of scenes or imply them. But we hear you guys and will do better next season."
Fans took to Twitter to praise Issa's message, which acknowledges the elephant in the room for many shows about messy 20-something sex lives: how to depict the heat of the moment passion with, y'know, safe sex practices. But fans also pointed out the weirdness of singling out Insecure for its lack of condoms, when honestly, most shows depicting sex have never put a condom onscreen, even as a subtle visual aside.
It's just a show! I need everyone to stop pretending that y'all are the only show that doesn't show condom use in sex scenes!August 14, 2017

Half the people complaining don't even wear condoms and out here unaware of their status. pic.twitter.com/Zwt4k1jvYVAugust 14, 2017
