The Collarless Coat Trend Makes My Cold-Weather Outfits Look Incredibly Elevated

I can’t stop wearing this outerwear staple.

Last week, I stopped by Everlane’s SoHo store in hopes of adding yet another cozy layer to my cold-weather wardrobe. To my delight, I found the perfect option: a taupe collarless coat crafted with a sumptuous wool blend. Designed with a clean crew neckline and a cocoon silhouette, this ladylike style instantly stood apart from its collared counterparts.

While collarless coats are certainly rooted in a ‘60s-centric aesthetic, the retro look is having a contemporary comeback. During Fall 2025’s fashion week circuit, designers valued this coat trend as an outerwear staple alongside trenches, puffers, and leather jackets. At Toteme, collarless coats were coordinated with midi skirts, oversized T-shirts, and knee-high boots. Calvin Klein’s alternative took up plenty of space, built with a bulky construction and massive shoulder pads. And for a maximalist flair, Chanel gave its version a feathered treatment.

Aside from having a snug appeal, collarless coats are ideal for this season because they invite endless styling opportunities. For proof, just ask Angela Fink, creative director and former celebrity stylist: The fashion connoisseur recently wrote about collarless coats in her latest Style at Large post, sharing that she often teams her By Malene Birger option with button-downs and lightweight jackets.
